Valentine’s Day Pop-Up

The record player spun in the corner. Sprinkles of rain threatened to release the clouds. The air filled with the smell of warm chocolate.

On Saturday 2/14, the Teal Salon in Sellwood generously hosted mormor’s first official pop-up. We were able to share wonderful treats with clients from the salon, passersby from the street, people who had seen the event postings and flyers, friends and family.

The mormor table, set up in front of a large window between a checkered sofa and a reception desk, with a hand-painted banner on the front, signage and display. A person in a white mormor t-shirt stands behind the table, smiling and looking down at the tablet screen.

Nerves gave way to joy as the first customers stepped up to the table. Excited to share what I had been working so hard on, elated to talk about the care that went in to every product on display.

Food brings people together from all walks of life to enjoy something temporal and beautiful.

A close-up of the table while an order is being fulfilled. A brown bag with the mormor stamp in red sits on the edge of the table, the menu display on the left, and the POS system on the right. A couple of people stand in front of the table as their order is packaged.

Having worked in bakeries for so long, it was natural to turn on the front-facing way. There’s a kind of dance to it, the multitasking aspect of trying to make eye contact and carry a conversation while remembering the person’s order.
